Winter Closure and the SU Occupational Health Center

FOR 2022-2023 CLOSURE INFORMATION PLEASE CLICK HERE

Stanford University and SLAC Occupational Health Centers will be shut down during the 2-week winter closure starting at 1:30pm on Friday, 12/17/2021 and return to normal operations as of Monday, 1/3/2022.

Information on medical treatment related to work illnesses during this time is attached.

For those departments who will remain open and on campus during Winter Close: Please be sure your staff follow all COVID-19 related protocols including compliance with required COVID-19 surveillance testing and completing Health Check if they are experiencing COVID-like symptoms, return from international travel, exposed to someone who tests positive for COVID-19, or test positive for COVID-19.

Medical Emergencies and Life-Threatening/Serious Conditions
  1. Medical Emergencies and Life-Threatening/Serious Conditions include:

    • Difficulty breathing for any reason
    • Major injury (e.g., open chest wound with trouble breathing; spinal or neck injury with loss of sensation or motion; obvious fracture, especially with visible bone)
    • Severe allergic reaction with throat swelling, severe asthma
    • Unconsciousness or unresponsiveness
    • Bee sting reaction (e.g., with hives or swelling of your whole arm or leg)
    • Head Injury

    For Medical Emergencies and Life-Threatening/Serious Conditions: 

    Call 911 (Dial 9-911 on University phones)


Immediate and Urgent Care Injuries
  1. Immediate/Urgent Conditions include:

    • Any acute injury with significant pain or swelling
    • Possible fracture or dislocation
    • Laceration (a cut requiring sutures)
    • Animal bite, including non-human primate bite
    • Needle stick or splash to mucous membrane of blood or potentially infectious body fluid
    • Acute exposures to workplace hazards (chemicals, laser, radiation)

    For immediate or urgent care, any employees/patients with occupational injuries or illnesses should proceed to:

Non-urgent or Existing Injuries
  1. Non-urgent or Existing Injuries include:

    • Aches or pain presenting for several weeks
    • Bruises/scrapes
    • Minor cuts
    • Minor burns
    • Allergies (without difficulty breathing)
