Respiratory Illness Policies

(Previously COVID-19 Information)

Current Policies and Status

Below is an overview of current Stanford University policies related to respiratory illness, including COVID-19. If you are experiencing respiratory symptoms, please visit this webpage for additional guidance.

Note: SLAC employees should refer to this webpage for policies and guidance.

HealthCheck and COVID

As of Feb 4, 2025, Stanford University faculty, staff, postdocs, visitors and other community members are no longer required to report positive COVID-19 tests or respiratory illness using Health Check.

Absence Reporting

Individuals who test positive for COVID or need to miss work for a respiratory illness should:

  • Consult a primary care provider for medical support, if needed.
  • Report absences using the same process for other infectious illnesses (e.g. through a manager, local HR, etc.)

For recommendations on how to protect yourself and others, please refer to this webpage.

Face Masks

Masking is no longer required. CDC recommends that individuals recovering from a respiratory illness mask around others for 5 days after fever resolution and return to work. Learn more here about face masks at Stanford.

**Please note: Masking is currently required in patient care areas of healthcare delivery facilities through March 31, 2025.

Vaccination

The university no longer requires – but continues to strongly recommend – COVID vaccinations and boosters for faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars, and students. For additional information on COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters, click here.
