The mission of the Stanford University Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is to lead university-wide efforts to protect life safety, safeguard infrastructure, maintain research and teaching, and communicate with the Stanford community during major emergencies or disasters. The OEM program works in support of four focus areas key to Stanford University’s overall Operational Resilience:
- Dynamic Capacity – The ability to adapt and adjust resources, capabilities, or operations in response to changing circumstances.
- Mission Continuity – The discipline to proactively plan for sustaining essential functions during crises, combined with the clarity of purpose to understand what is truly essential.
- Shared Reality – The integration and information sharing required to align our understanding of the situation, anticipated future developments, and their significance within the broader context.
- Unity of Effort – Aligning intentions and efforts, emphasizing the significance of a cohesive approach and shared objectives.
