Heat Advisory for March 16–20th

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory for March 16–20, 2026 as Bay Area temperatures are expected to reach the low-to-mid 90s this week. Because this is one of the first heat waves of the year, employees may not yet be acclimatized to higher temperatures. Managers must ensure that preventive measures are in place to protect staff from potential heat-related hazards.

For outdoor work, when temperatures reach 80°F or higher, supervisors must ensure employees have access to adequate shade, water, and rest breaks.

For all work activities, effective methods to minimize heat exposure include but are not limited to:

  • Working during the cooler parts of the day
  • Working from an air-conditioned location where possible
  • Telecommuting when appropriate

Employees with medical concerns should consult their personal physician for health-related recommendations when working during a heat wave. Staff who are unable to work should consult with their HR Manager.

For information on preventing heat illness in your workplace, please review the EH&S General Heat Illness Prevention guidance based on Cal/OSHA requirements. Contact EH&S for additional information.

Please take care of your personal health and stay alert to the needs of those around you.

Staying hydrated is very important during a heat wave. Drink plenty of water and encourage your colleagues to do the same. When possible, wear lightweight clothing to increase your comfort during excessive heat.
