Prepare your teams for heat conditions as temperatures reach the mid-90s this week.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has forecasted elevated temperatures for the Stanford area this week.
Given commencement-related activities this week, please ensure that your local Heat Illness Prevention Plan is up to date and your employees are refreshed on their roles in keeping safe during warmer weather.
For outdoor work, when temperatures reach 80°F or higher, ensure employees have access to adequate shade, water, and rest breaks. Review Outdoor Heat Illness Prevention guidance to minimize the risk of heat illness.
For managing work activities, effective methods to minimize heat exposure include but are not limited to:
- Working during the cooler parts of the day
- Working from an air-conditioned location where possible
- Working from home when appropriate
Please take care of your personal health and stay alert to the needs of those around you. Support your team by:
- Encouraging frequent hydration
- Watching for signs of heat illness in others
- Wearing lightweight clothing when possible
Employees with medical concerns should consult their personal physician for health-related recommendations when working during a heat wave. Staff who are unable to work should consult with their HR Manager. For more information, review the EH&S General Heat Illness Prevention guidance based on Cal/OSHA requirements.
