How to Use

Disposal

You must properly dispose of controlled substances. Do not dispose of them by disintegrating, crushing into powder, or dissolving in water. Request that we pick up the substance via our Hazardous Waste Program by submitting this form.

Categories of waste:

  • Wasted controlled substances – These include unused tablets, injections, oral liquids, or preparations mixed by mistake, which contain controlled substances.
  • Expired controlled substances – These include controlled substances past their shelf life, unwanted controlled substances that are non-formulary drugs, or drugs that are no longer used.

We dispose of controlled substances per the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) requirements.

Note: We only dispose of DEA controlled substances (Schedule  II-V) obtained under the University’s institutional DEA registration. Individual registrants must manage disposal of their controlled substances per DEA requirements.
