Radioactive Material Sealed Source Disposal

If you wish to dispose of a sealed radioactive source, you must go through Health Physics to ensure that all regulations are followed. Your group will be responsible for any costs incurred in the disposal.

You should first contact the manufacturer to see if they will accept the return of the sealed source.

  • If the manufacturer does accept returns, package the source according to their specifications. Do not seal the package because we will need to leak test it before shipment. Call our radioactive inspection station at (650) 723-5857 to arrange for drop-off and prepaid shipping paperwork.
  • If the manufacturer does not accept returns, contact (650) 723-3201 for advice on how to proceed.

To request this service, please contact Health Physics at (650) 723-3201.
