Respiratory Virus Guidance

General Guidance

  • If you are sick with a respiratory virus, including COVID or flu, you should remain off from work until you are fever-free for 24 hours and feeling better.  Upon return, additional precautions, including frequent hand washing and masking around others, are recommended for 5 days.
  • Contact your personal physician for health care. We strongly encourage you to contact your physician with any questions about medical evaluation and treatment. If you have urgent or critical medical needs, please go to your nearest emergency department.

Healthcare Professionals

  • Please adhere to the updated recommendations for healthcare workers at Stanford HealthCare.  You should contact WFW at 650-497-9595 with any questions.

  • Per County of Santa Clara Order: Masking is required in patient care areas of healthcare delivery facilities through March 31, 2025.

COVID and Infectious Illness Reporting Policy

  • As of Feb 4, 2025, Stanford University faculty, staff, postdocs, visitors and other community members are no longer required to report COVID-19 positive tests.
  • Report absences using the same process as with  other infectious illnesses (e.g. through a supervisor/manager, local HR, PI)

COVID Onsite Activity Policy

  • The university does not require COVID isolation or quarantine.
